Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

What could cause the following symptoms: it started one morning right after I woke up I suddenly felt like my face right under my eyes was swelling a little. I was dizzy, my heart fluttering, my neck felt on fire, and the back of my head and face was tingling. That went on for a few days, then pretty much everything went away. But then I started having slight discomfort in my left shoulder blade, back of neck, and my side where my rib cage is. I experienced sudden stabbing shooting pain in the rib that radiated from my rib down to the top of my leg and up to my shoulder, but this only happened for a split second.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s crucial to understand the underlying cause of your symptoms, as they can indicate various health issues. The initial symptoms you described—facial swelling, dizziness, heart fluttering, and tingling sensations—are concerning and could suggest a range of conditions, including allergic reactions, anxiety, or even neurological issues. Facial swelling, in particular, can be a sign of an inflammatory response or an allergic reaction, especially if it occurred suddenly after waking up.

The dizziness and heart fluttering you experienced can also be related to several factors, including dehydration, anxiety, or cardiovascular issues. These symptoms can sometimes occur in combination with one another, and their persistence should not be overlooked.

The discomfort in your left shoulder blade, neck, and rib area, along with the sudden stabbing pain radiating from your rib to your leg and shoulder, may indicate nerve irritation, muscular strain, or other musculoskeletal problems. It’s also worth noting that referred pain can occur, meaning that issues in one area of the body can cause discomfort in another.

Given the complexity of your symptoms and the potential for underlying conditions, I strongly encourage you to seek medical attention promptly. Scheduling an appointment for a comprehensive evaluation is vital, as a thorough examination will help identify the root cause of your symptoms. This may involve physical examinations, imaging studies, or other diagnostic tests to ensure we understand your condition fully.

Addressing these concerns early is key to effective treatment and can help prevent any potential complications in the future. Remember, your health and well-being are our top priorities, so don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

Thanks
