Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Hi I am 22 year old with complete regular menstrual cycles. I have PCOS (all hormones are in normal range) but excess androgen and weight gain. I have excess androgens from childhood. I wanted to know if Aromatase inducing medications might help me with this or if there is anything else you would suggest I would want to know that too.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The main focus in PCOS treatment is weight loss. Oral contraceptive pills are commonly prescribed to decrease androgen levels by increasing sex hormone binding globulin. Metformin helps with weight reduction and improves insulin sensitivity. While spironolactone and other medications may be used, pregnancy should be avoided. Aromatase-inducing drugs are not typically part of the treatment approach.

Thanks
