Patient Question

Hello Doctor

I attempted to remove a blackhead from my nose, but now it's very red. What should I do to alleviate the redness?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Possible Cause:

 1. Skin Irritation: Attempting to extract a blackhead can irritate the skin, leading to redness and inflammation.

Recommendations:

1.Gentle Care: Avoid further manipulation of the affected area and refrain from squeezing or picking at the skin.

 2. Cool Compress: Apply a cool compress or ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the red area for a few minutes to reduce inflammation and soothe the skin.

 3. Topical Treatment: Consider applying a gentle, soothing topical treatment such as aloe vera gel or a mild hydrocortisone cream to help calm the redness and irritation.

 4. Hydrate and Protect: Keep the skin hydrated by applying a non-comedogenic moisturizer, and protect it from further irritation by avoiding harsh skincare products and excessive sun exposure.

 5. Monitor for Improvement: Keep an eye on the redness, and if it persists or worsens, consider consulting a dermatologist for further evaluation and guidance on appropriate treatment options.

Thanks
