Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've noticed a small bump on my upper lip, slightly below the corner, which isn't painful or itchy. It's nearly the same color as my lip but slightly darker. I'm uncertain if it's been there for a while, and it's causing me some concern.  what might be causing this?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Certainly, a small bump on your lip can have various potential causes, including harmless conditions like Fordyce spots (sebaceous glands), common occurrences like pimples, or minor irritations. It's important to note that these bumps are typically not painful and don't itch.

In contrast, herpes sores tend to be painful and appear in clusters. Therefore, it's more likely that your bump is related to a benign condition rather than herpes. However, if it persists or causes concern, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation and peace of mind.

Thanks
