Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I noticed I have one swollen lymph node. Last week, I had a cold, but all the symptoms have cleared up now. Three days ago, I received a flu shot. Aside from this swollen lymph node, I don’t have any other symptoms no cough, runny nose, sore throat, or other swollen nodes. I’m currently out of town and can’t see my primary care doctor. Should I be concerned or see a doctor while I’m away?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

1. It’s common to have a swollen lymph node after a recent infection like a cold or following a vaccination such as a flu shot. This usually means your immune system is responding normally and should improve on its own within a couple of weeks. Since you don’t have other symptoms like fever, worsening pain, or additional swollen nodes, this is likely nothing serious.

2. However, if the lymph node grows larger, becomes very painful, or if you develop new symptoms like fever or night sweats, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Otherwise, keep an eye on it and try to rest. If you have any concerns while you’re out of town, consider a local urgent care or telehealth consultation.

Thanks
