Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My last period was on November 24, 2023, and I usually have a 26-day cycle. I expected my period to come on December 19th, but it was delayed by about 4 days, and now I’m seeing blood on December 23rd. The flow of blood isn’t like my usual period, so I’m wondering if this could be implantation bleeding or spotting. How can I confirm whether I’m pregnant or not?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Periods can sometimes be irregular, and a delay of up to 7 days either way is quite common. However, if your periods are usually very regular, I would recommend taking a urine pregnancy test to check for pregnancy. Additionally, if you want to be 100% certain, a transvaginal ultrasound scan can provide further clarity. This will help confirm whether pregnancy or another condition is the cause of the changes in your menstrual cycle.

Thanks
