Hello Doctor,
I was sexually active with my partner after many years of not being active. We used protection. My period was delayed by 10 days and when it did start, it was light flow and was red or sometimes dark red/brown. I did start birth control pills on the first day of my period. I am now on my period for 25 days. I was told it is because my body is adjusting to the pill. I have had a c-section 8 years ago and I have a history of fibroids. I would like to know if the long period is due to the pill and should I continue the pill as my body will eventually adjust?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
If you have fibroids, the birth control pill should be stopped, as the fibroids can grow bigger, causing increased pain and bleeding. You will need to undergo a scan after a full check-up to determine the cause of the bleeding. It could be related to missed periods, pregnancy, fibroids, or a combination of these factors. Treatment should only begin once a proper diagnosis is made. Please do not delay seeking a medical assessment.
Thanks
