Hello Doctor,
I took a Plan B pill the day after my period ended (6 days ago), and this morning I woke up with bleeding. It's normal red blood, more than spotting (enough to fill a menstrual cup), and not an odd color. I took two pregnancy tests and an ovulation test, and all three were negative. Could this be an extremely early period caused by Plan B, or could it be something else?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
The bleeding you're experiencing could indeed be related to the Plan B pill. However, to be certain and to identify the exact cause of the bleeding, a scan following an internal examination is recommended. Possible causes of bleeding include hormone imbalance, infection, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, or improper use of hormonal contraceptives. A thorough check with relevant blood and urine tests will help confirm the underlying condition.
If pregnancy is ruled out and bleeding stops, a different contraceptive method, other than Plan B, may be suggested.
Thanks
