Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have been spotting for almost two weeks now, and I'm starting to get worried. Back in December, I took at least four Postinor pills before and during my period. Could that be the reason for this spotting?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Spotting for an extended period, like two weeks, could be related to the use of multiple Postinor pills in a short timeframe. Postinor is an emergency contraceptive that contains a high dose of hormones, which can cause menstrual irregularities, including prolonged spotting, changes in cycle length, or unexpected bleeding.

2. Taking multiple doses close together can further disrupt your hormonal balance, leading to side effects like delayed or early periods, heavier or lighter bleeding, and prolonged spotting. However, other factors could also contribute to your symptoms, such as stress, hormonal imbalances, infections, or underlying medical conditions.

3. If the spotting continues or worsens, or if you experience other symptoms like severe pain, dizziness, or unusual discharge, it would be best to consult a doctor for further evaluation. They may recommend tests to rule out any underlying concerns and help regulate your cycle if needed.

Thanks
