Hello Doctor,
I have been thinking about asking a doctor if there is a way to temporarily or permanently stop my period without causing long-term painful side effects. My menstrual cramps are extremely painful, and it has been this way ever since I started my period about a year ago. I know I’m still young, so maybe this is an immature question, but my periods hurt so much that they interfere with my daily life. My parents don’t take my pain seriously—they just tell me to take Advil, but it doesn’t help at all. I feel really frustrated and don’t know what to do. Are there safe options to reduce or stop my periods?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Painful periods can have various causes. If the pain lasts only a day or occurs before menstruation, painkillers and exercise may help. However, if it persists throughout your period, conditions like endometriosis or fibroids should be ruled out with a check-up and ultrasound. Specific treatments, including hormonal options, are available to manage or reduce periods. Since Advil isn’t helping, consulting a doctor is recommended to explore safe and effective solutions.
Thanks
