Hello Doctor,
Is it possible that I have PCOD? What does it mean when it is stated that both ovaries are enlarged with a few follicles arranged around the edges, indicating a polycystic appearance of the ovaries? They have suggested undergoing a hormonal test. The ultrasound scan also identified the presence of fluid in the pouch of Douglas.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on the description you provided, the ultrasound scan indicates a possibility of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects women in their reproductive years and can lead to symptoms like irregular periods, weight gain, acne, excessive hair growth, and fertility issues. The presence of fluid in the pouch of Douglas could also indicate other conditions such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease. It is recommended to pursue further testing and explore treatment options.
Thanks
