Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My period is two days late, and I’m a little concerned. My last period was from January 4th to January 6th, 2024. I’ve been spotting and having mild cramping, similar to my usual period symptoms. I took two home pregnancy tests, and both were negative, but I still feel like I might be pregnant. I’m experiencing symptoms that make me unsure. Can you help me understand what’s going on?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s understandable to feel concerned, especially if you're experiencing unusual symptoms. Since your period is slightly delayed and you're having spotting and mild cramping, there could be a few possible reasons, such as hormonal fluctuations, stress, or early pregnancy that isn't yet detectable on a home test. If your symptoms persist or worsen, I recommend getting a blood test for more accurate results and scheduling an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy or any other underlying causes. If you experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, or other concerning symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.

Thanks
