Hello Doctor,
In the last month, I haven’t had my menstrual cycle. My boyfriend and I have been having unprotected sex frequently. I took a blood pregnancy test a month ago, and it was negative, but I’ve had unprotected sex since then. Over the past two weeks, I’ve been experiencing extreme backaches that don’t go away, and I’ve been very bloated. My stomach looks like I’m pregnant, but the bloating won’t go down. Is there a chance that I could be pregnant?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Yes, there is a possibility that you could be pregnant, especially since you have been having unprotected sex. While a negative blood test a month ago ruled out pregnancy at that time, it would not account for any conception that may have occurred since then. Given that you have been experiencing persistent backaches, bloating, and a missed period, it would be best to take another pregnancy test to check your current status.
2. In addition to pregnancy, other factors such as hormonal imbalances, stress, ovarian cysts, or digestive issues could also contribute to these symptoms. If your period does not return or if your symptoms worsen, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation, including a repeat blood test, ultrasound, and any necessary exams to determine the cause of your symptoms.
