Hello Doctor,
I took birth control continuously for two years and never had any issues. However, I had to stop taking it for four months, and during this time, I didn’t get my period. I decided to start taking the same brand of birth control again, but this time, I’ve completed all 7 of the placebo pills and still haven’t gotten my period, which is unusual for me since I usually experience breakthrough bleeding after 3 or 4 placebos. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
It is not uncommon for menstruation to stop or become irregular after using birth control pills for an extended period. This can happen due to hormonal changes in the body. However, to ensure everything is fine, I recommend taking a home pregnancy test to rule out the possibility of pregnancy. If the test is negative, it would be a good idea to schedule a scan to further assess your situation and confirm that everything is as expected. If the problem persists or you're still concerned, it would be beneficial to follow up with your healthcare provider for additional guidance.
Thanks
