Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My period is two days late. I have been sick with a fever of 105°F and have been taking a lot of medication to help recover. I experienced spotting for 2-3 days. However, my cycle apps are showing different expected dates for my period. What should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. There is no need for concern at this point. Simply monitor your period cycles and keep track of the dates. If your period is only one week early or late, this is usually not a problem. Once your fever settles and the underlying cause is treated, your cycle should return to normal.

2. However, if your period continues to be irregular, it’s advisable to get checked by a healthcare provider. They may recommend scans or other tests to identify the cause. Common factors such as high fever, hormonal imbalances, stress, anemia, or infection can disrupt your menstrual cycle. A specialist can help with a thorough examination and suggest appropriate treatment if necessary.

Thanks
