Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a concern about my menstrual cycle. My last period started on November 26 and lasted into the first week of December. However, there have been times in the past when I’ve experienced two periods in one month. This month has been very stressful due to school-related problems and workload. I’m not very sexually active with my boyfriend, but I am feeling the usual signs that my period is coming, such as pimples and mild cramps. Could my period just be late because of the stress, or is it likely that my next period will come in January instead?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Irregular periods and bleeding lasting more than 7 days may indicate an underlying issue like hormonal imbalance, PCOS, infection, or an STI. I recommend consulting your doctor for tests, including a scan and blood work, to identify the cause.

Keep a menstrual calendar for 3 months, noting start and end dates, flow, and symptoms. Stress can impact your cycle, but a medical evaluation is essential to determine the exact cause and treatment.

Thanks
