Hello Doctor,
I had a copper IUD inserted a year ago, and my periods have been regular until now. This month, my period was delayed by a week, and when it finally came, it was much lighter than usual and lasted for 8 days. Then, after just 3 days, my period started again. I’m also experiencing pain in my lower right abdomen. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Irregular bleeding and abdominal pain after a copper IUD insertion may have several causes. While the IUD itself can lead to cycle changes, your symptoms could also indicate perimenopause, hormonal imbalances, ovarian cysts, or uterine conditions. The lower right abdominal pain needs evaluation to rule out possible concerns like infection or appendicitis.
2. I recommend seeing a doctor for a full assessment, including a pelvic exam and possible ultrasound, to determine the cause and ensure proper care.
Thanks
