Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 47-year-old woman who has been dealing with endometriosis and adenomyosis. I thought I had missed my period this month and was wondering if I might be starting perimenopause. However, I started spotting on November 9th, two weeks late, and I’ve been bleeding heavily ever since. The bleeding is very heavy, and I’m passing large clots. It’s now November 25th, and I’m still bleeding heavily. For some context, I had a tubal ligation in 2011, an ectopic pregnancy in 2005, three miscarriages, and two live births via C-section. Could this be related to my conditions, or should I be concerned about something else?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Given that endometriosis typically tends to lessen in intensity during menopause, the heavy bleeding you're experiencing requires immediate attention. It's important that you see a gynecologist as soon as possible for a thorough examination. They can assess whether this bleeding is related to your endometriosis, adenomyosis, or if there may be another underlying cause. Heavy bleeding with large clots, especially after a missed period, warrants a careful evaluation to rule out any other conditions, such as fibroids or abnormal changes in the uterus. Please make an appointment with your gynecologist promptly for further investigation.

Thanks
