Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My period is currently 11 days late, and this has been causing me some worry. Despite taking three pregnancy tests, all of which have come back negative, I am still experiencing this delay. Additionally, I have noticed some spotting, which has added to my anxiety. I want to mention that I am currently using birth control.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It's not uncommon for individuals to experience irregularities in their menstrual cycles, even when using birth control. While negative pregnancy tests can be reassuring, they may not always provide a complete picture, especially if taken too early or if there are other factors at play. Given your symptoms and the inconclusive results of the urine tests, I would recommend scheduling a blood test to measure your HCG levels. Unlike urine tests, blood tests are more sensitive and accurate in detecting pregnancy, particularly in the early stages. This will provide us with more reliable information about your current situation.

Thanks
