Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had regular periods. I got my period on the morning of 27th May, and in June, I got my period on the afternoon of 26th. But I had intercourse on the night of 24th June. Will I have chances of getting pregnant?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s possible to get pregnant any time you have unprotected sex, regardless of what day it is in your cycle. Sperm can live in a woman’s reproductive tract for about six days, so it’s always best to use protection. Your LMP (last menstrual period) is on 26th of June. You had intercourse on 24th of June, which means it was towards the last days of your menstrual cycle. The chances of pregnancy are lower because you have regular periods. However, it doesn't guarantee that pregnancy cannot happen. I highly recommend you monitor your next menstrual cycle. If it’s delayed, there is a chance you could be pregnant. In that case, an at-home pregnancy test (Quickstick) and a visit to an OB-GYN for further examination would be advisable. I hope this answer is helpful to you. If you need more details, consider consulting your trusted OB-GYN or booking a private online consultation.

Thanks
