Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been on my period for over two weeks now, and it hasn’t gotten any lighter. I’m really concerned because, although I don’t have much pain, my discharge has been unusually heavy. It almost feels like more than one egg has come out. Is this normal, or should I be worried? I’m feeling really distressed about this.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

A prolonged period lasting more than two weeks is not normal and should be evaluated. While mild variations in menstrual cycles can happen, persistent heavy bleeding and unusual discharge may indicate an underlying issue such as hormonal imbalance, fibroids, polyps, or other medical conditions. I recommend scheduling an examination with a doctor as soon as possible. A pelvic ultrasound and blood tests may be necessary to determine the cause. Once diagnosed, appropriate treatment can be provided to regulate your cycle and address any concerns.

Thanks
