Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been dealing with a painful, inflamed Bartholin cyst for three days. I've been using tea tree oil and warm compresses. Should I go to urgent care or the ER for removal?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Surgery: A minor surgical procedure is needed at the earliest to address the inflamed Bartholin cyst.

Antibiotics: Begin a course of antibiotics, such as cephalexin or erythromycin, for seven days to help manage the infection.

Pain Management: Take a painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen to alleviate discomfort until surgery can be scheduled.

Partner Screening: It's important for your partner to undergo testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and follow up accordingly to prevent further complications or recurrence.

Thanks
