Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I am a 30-year-old female, and I haven’t had my period for the past three months. I’m worried about what this could mean for my fertility. Could this be a sign of infertility, or are there other possible reasons for my missed periods? Should I be concerned, and what steps should I take next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It is important to first rule out pregnancy by taking a pregnancy test. If the test is negative, I recommend getting an ultrasound scan to check for any underlying issues. There are several possible reasons for missed periods, including hormonal imbalances, stress, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or other medical conditions. To determine the exact cause, further tests such as hormone level assessments may be needed. Once the cause is identified, a gynecologist can prescribe appropriate treatment, including medication if necessary, to help regulate your menstrual cycle.

Thanks
