Hello Doctor,
Yesterday, I underwent a semen analysis test as my doctor recommended it due to my wife and I trying to conceive for the past 9 months without success. The report showed a total sperm count of 50 million per ml, with motility results indicating that 20% are actively motile, 40% are sluggishly motile, and 40% are non-motile. In terms of sperm morphology, 90% were normal, with 5% showing head defects and 5% tail defects. Additionally, a few pus cells were detected. Could you help me understand if these results are within the normal range and advise on steps I can take to improve my fertility?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen.
Based on your semen analysis results, here’s some guidance to address your concerns and potentially enhance fertility. Consulting a healthcare professional is recommended for a detailed evaluation and tailored treatment. It may also be beneficial to repeat the semen analysis to monitor any changes in pus cell levels, as elevated pus cells can impact fertility, though they don't always result in infertility. Treatment options could include antibiotics to address any infections or anti-inflammatory medications to reduce inflammation. Additionally, adopting a healthy lifestyle with balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and stress management can positively influence reproductive health. Every case is unique, so personalized advice from a healthcare provider will be key.
Thanks,
