Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I noticed a small, single (localized) scrotal mass on my right scrotal sac. It doesn't have any symptoms, i.e., no pain. When I touch it, it doesn't have any pain or feel hard or rough. I am scared. Is it cancerous or not? Please guide me.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

If you notice a small, painless, and localized scrotal mass, it may not be cancerous. Scrotal masses can be benign or malignant, and some cause pain while others don't. Symptoms of a scrotal mass might include an unusual lump, sudden pain, dull aching, or a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum, swelling in the scrotum, and a change in the color of the skin of the scrotum.

If you notice a lump in your scrotum or other unusual changes, it's important to see a healthcare professional. They may perform a physical exam, transillumination, and ultrasound to diagnose the type of scrotal mass you have. Most scrotal masses are harmless and do not need to be treated unless you are experiencing symptoms. However, it is crucial to have your provider examine any scrotal growth as soon as possible to determine if it requires treatment.

In summary, while a scrotal mass can be concerning, not all are cancerous. It's best to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.

Thanks
