Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I just got my blood test results back, and it shows that I'm positive for HSV-1 but negative for HSV-2. What does this mean, and should I be worried?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. I believe your blood test shows that you have antibodies to HSV-1, which means you've been infected with the virus at some point in the past. If you are not currently experiencing symptoms, such as painful sores or blisters, there is no need for concern or further treatment.

2. It's possible that the virus could cause outbreaks, especially if your immune system becomes weakened, but not everyone who tests positive experiences these symptoms. If you do notice any sores or have concerns, it's a good idea to follow up with your healthcare provider.

Thanks
