Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I was wondering if I have HSV-2 and am either asymptomatic or only have mild symptoms, would I still be able to pass the virus to someone else? If so, would their symptoms be similar to mine?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The severity of symptoms can vary from person to person and largely depends on the immune status of the individual. People with a weakened immune system may experience more severe symptoms, while those with a stronger immune system might have milder or even no symptoms. Even if you're asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, it's still possible to transmit HSV-2 to others, and their experience with the virus could differ depending on their immune response.

Thanks
