Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had a full body massage on December 21, during which the masseuse briefly touched my penis. I suspect ejaculation occurred but can’t recall the details. Since then, I’ve had symptoms like a scratchy throat, on-and-off cough, and congestion, but no fever. Could I be at risk for HIV?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The risk of HIV transmission in the scenario you described is extremely low to nonexistent. HIV is primarily transmitted through sexual intercourse, sharing needles, or exposure of infected blood or fluids to open wounds or mucous membranes. If the masseuse’s hands did not have visible blood, transmission should not occur. The symptoms you’re experiencing are more likely linked to a common respiratory infection. If you’re concerned or have had other potential risk factors, it’s a good idea to consult a doctor for reassurance and, if necessary, testing.

Thanks
