Why Am I Having Pain on the Opposite Side After Oophorectomy?

Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had an oophorectomy in August 2022, and only my left ovary was left. My last period started on January 18, and I typically have 25-day cycles, so I believe I am in my ovulation period now. However, I'm experiencing severe pain on the opposite side, where I no longer have an ovary. The pain is stabbing and radiates down my thigh, with a pain level of 8. I’ve been taking Tylenol 1000mg, which provides about 7 hours of relief, but the pain comes back instantly after it wears off. Should I go to the ER?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, it's possible that a cyst may have formed in your remaining ovary, or there could be another condition such as endometriosis causing the pain. It is important to get checked out by a healthcare professional as soon as possible. I recommend scheduling an appointment or visiting the ER to have the issue evaluated, as it could require medical intervention or further diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the pain.

Thanks
