Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

During the first few days of my period, I experience diarrhea, pain, nausea, and sweating. I am in my mid-30s and have had three children. For the past few years, I consistently have at least one day in the early stages of my period where I suffer from diarrhea, nausea, sweating, panic, and pain. These symptoms come in waves, starting with an urge to use the bathroom and then hitting me all at once. Once I pass a bowel movement, the symptoms subside. This cycle repeats every hour for 3-5 hours. My doctors suspect that I may have endometriosis, although I have not undergone a laparoscopy, and I do have resolving cysts. I cannot take birth control due to adverse reactions. I am seeking information about potential causes and solutions for my condition.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Your condition is a gynecological conflict. First of all, those symptoms are related to endometriosis. However, they could also be related to intra-abdominal adhesions.

Question: Did you have c-sections for any of the children?

If the answer is NO, the most likely cause would be endometriosis.

If it is YES, synechiae would be the cause, which may require a laparoscopy.

Thanks
