Hello Doctor,
I’ve been feeling a sharp pain in my left chest area, usually after I eat and then go to sleep. The pain always goes away by morning. I’ve noticed that if I skip dinner, I don’t get this pain at all. But when I eat late and lie down soon after, the sharp chest pain comes back. I’m worried this might be related to my heart. What should I do? Should I get an ECG or some other test to check if it’s a heart problem? What steps can I take to understand what’s causing this pain?
Hello
Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.
Yes, I recommend getting an ECG to check your heart since chest pain can sometimes be serious. Do you have any family history of heart problems? That information will help assess your risk. Your pain might also be related to acid reflux, especially since it happens after eating and lying down, but it’s best to rule out heart issues first. Please see your doctor soon for a proper evaluation.
Thanks
