Hello Doctor,
I’ve been experiencing heart palpitations for a few hours now, and it hasn’t stopped. I don’t have any chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness, but I’m still worried. Should I be concerned about this? What could be causing it, and when should I see a doctor?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.
1. Heart palpitations can be caused by many factors, ranging from benign to more serious conditions. If you don’t have other symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath, and no known heart disease or risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or family history of heart problems, the palpitations may be less urgent. However, prolonged palpitations still warrant evaluation to rule out any underlying heart rhythm issues.
2. It is important to have an initial investigation, starting with an electrocardiogram (ECG) to check your heart’s electrical activity. Based on the results and your overall health, your doctor may recommend further tests or monitoring. If you develop additional symptoms or if the palpitations worsen, seek medical attention promptly.
