Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My endoscopy shows LAX LES Hills Grade 2, and my doctor said I have a loose LES since birth. I suffer from severe heartburn, burning in my throat and stomach, bloating, and pain. I had H. pylori three years ago, took antibiotics, but my symptoms persist. Even mild spices trigger heartburn. How severe is this, and what can be done to manage it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Your LAX LES Hills Grade 2 indicates a weakened LES, which can lead to persistent acid reflux. If you're already on acid-suppressing medication and still have symptoms, further tests like:

1. 24-hour pH monitoring – Measures acid reflux severity.

2. Esophageal manometry – Assesses LES pressure.

These tests help determine if anti-reflux surgery or other treatments are needed. A gastroenterologist consultation can guide you further.

Thanks
