Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing numbness and tingling in my foot, especially around my pinky toe where I have a bunion on both feet. They're sometimes red and painful to walk on every day. What could be causing this burning sensation?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The burning sensation you're experiencing could have multiple causes. It may be due to diabetic neuropathy, idiopathic neuropathy, or even issues in your back such as a herniated disc. It's essential to consult with a neurologist to determine the underlying cause of your numbness and tingling.

As for the inflammation from your bunions, using Voltaren gel 1% three times a day can help reduce pain and inflammation. Additionally, covering the bunion with a band-aid while walking can prevent friction and irritation. If you're seeking a faster treatment option, a cortisone injection may provide relief. Do you also have a Hallux Valgus deformity? This information can help tailor the treatment approach more effectively.

Thanks
