Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My 18-year-old son has been having an issue for about a year. When he has a bowel movement, he notices dry blood in his stool, and his urine has been consistently foamy. Should I be worried, and what could be causing this?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The blood in your son's stool could be due to hemorrhoids, fissures, or a more serious GI issue, while foamy urine might indicate kidney concerns like proteinuria. A colonoscopy is the best way to identify the source of bleeding. I recommend scheduling this along with stool tests, blood work, and a urinalysis to get a clearer picture and address the issue promptly.

Thanks
