Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Bad burn blister on my lip, I don’t have insurance and really want to avoid going to the doctor. It hurt pretty bad when it happened but is now a mild pain/annoyance. It looks really ugly, and I’m not sure how to heal it. I’ve been putting Aquaphor and triple antibiotic on it.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s good that you’re already applying Aquaphor and triple antibiotic ointment, as these can help in promoting healing and preventing infection. Avoid popping the blister, as this increases the risk of infection. To continue the healing process:

  • Keep the area clean by gently washing with mild soap and water.
  • Apply the ointment carefully after cleaning.
  • Protect the area from further damage by avoiding sun exposure or heat.
  • Use over-the-counter pain relievers for any mild discomfort.

However, if you notice signs of infection like redness, swelling, pus, or increased pain, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately. While I understand your concerns about cost, untreated infections can lead to complications. Some community health centers or urgent care facilities might offer affordable care.

Thanks
