Hello Doctor,
My sister's son has been acting aggressively and not behaving like a kid. He’s breaking laptops and mobiles if he loses in the games he plays. He’s not socially well-behaved and often hits new people he meets or who visit our house. He is 12 years old. He gets everything he asks for, no matter how expensive, and my sister never hesitates to buy what he wants. I believe my sister is spoiling him. Could you please suggest how to handle this and make him normal?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query:
Yes, I can help! However, it’s important to recognize that your sister and family might not be able to manage these behaviors alone. If his impulsive and selfish behavior has appeared suddenly, it could indicate the early symptoms of a mental health condition. Professional help is crucial in such cases. This doesn’t mean he is “crazy” but rather that he may have a treatable condition that, with the right support, can help him regain control over his behavior and emotions.
Seeking help from a psychiatrist can make a significant difference, even though it might feel daunting due to the stigma often associated with mental health issues. Psychiatry is like any other medical specialty and focuses on improving or curing conditions to ensure a better quality of life. Early intervention can prevent the problem from becoming a chronic condition, enabling him to lead a healthier, more balanced life.
