Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing migraines, anxiety, and shortness of breath lately. It feels like my lungs aren't getting enough air even after taking deep breaths. Also, the front portion of my neck hurts when I breathe. It's located above the right collarbone and slightly towards the left. What could be causing these symptoms?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Understanding Your Symptoms: Exploring Potential Causes

It's essential to consider that the symptoms you've described, including migraines, anxiety, breathlessness, and neck pain, could be indicative of various medical conditions.

Stress and Anxiety: Managing the Root Cause

Firstly, stress, whether chronic or related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), can manifest in symptoms like migraines and breathlessness, often due to panic. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, a well-balanced diet, and avoiding smoking and alcohol can be beneficial. Additionally, anxiolytics or sleep aids may offer relief.

Migraine Management: Addressing Acute Episodes

Migraines can be managed with pain relievers like ibuprofen and ergotamine during severe episodes. However, it's important to address the underlying causes contributing to stress and migraines.

Neck Pain: Exploring Cervical Spondylosis

Furthermore, cervical neck spondylosis, a degenerative bone disease affecting cervical nerves, could cause neck pain and potentially contribute to breathlessness. In severe cases, a collar neck support may be recommended in addition to pain medication.

Investigating Serious Conditions: Brain Lesions and Anomalies

However, it's crucial to rule out more serious conditions like brain lesions from meningitis, brain tumors, or brain vascular aneurysms. A computer tomography (CT) scan can provide insight into any abnormalities in the brain. Treatment for these conditions varies; for example, aneurysms may require a chip implantation in the brain to control further bleeding, while tumors may necessitate chemotherapy or surgical intervention.

Medical Evaluation: Consulting with Your Doctor

I strongly recommend consulting with your doctor for a comprehensive evaluation, including the tests mentioned above. This will assist decide the underlying purpose of your signs and manual suitable treatment.

Thanks
