How to Treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Medical Treatment:
Treat carpal tunnel syndrome yourself
Sometimes in a few months, CTS will clear up by itself, especially if you have it because you are pregnant.
Wear a wrist splint
  • Something you wear on your hand to keep your wrist straight is called a wrist splint. It helps to relieve pressure on the nerve.
  • You wear it while you are sleeping at night. Before you start feeling better, you will have to wear a splint for at least 4 weeks.
  • Stop or cut down on things that may be causing it
  • Stop or cut down on anything that causes you to frequently bend your wrist or grip hard, such as using vibrating tools for work or playing an instrument.
Painkillers
  • Painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen may offer short-term relief from carpal tunnel pain.
Hand exercises
  • There is little evidence to suggest hand exercises help to ease the symptoms of CTS.
  • If a wrist splint has not helped, a steroid injection into your wrist may be recommended by your GP. This causes swelling around the nerve, ease CTS symptoms.
  • Steroid injections are not always a treatment. After a couple of months, CTS can come back and you may need another injection.
