Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Is there an alternative to prednisone for my mother's severe vasculitis? The 40mg prednisone treatment hasn't relieved her pain and nausea, and her condition is worsening. Is there another medication for inflammation, enabling a stent procedure?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Confirmation of Diagnosis:

1. If your mother is not responding to steroids, it's essential to revisit the diagnosis of vasculitis.

2. Vasculitis typically responds to steroids, so a lack of response warrants a thorough evaluation.

Alternative Medications:

1. In cases where steroids are not effective, there are alternative medications available for vasculitis treatment.

2. Consider medications such as mycophenolate, cyclophosphamide, and azathioprine.

3. These non-steroidal options can be valuable in managing vasculitis and its associated symptoms.

Thanks
