Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
A painful bump in your mouth could be due to several reasons:
- Canker Sore: These are small, painful ulcers that can develop in the mouth, often appearing on the inside of the cheeks, lips, or gums.
- Trauma or Irritation: Biting the inside of your cheek, irritation from braces, or sharp teeth edges can cause a bump.
- Infection: Bacterial, viral, or fungal infections can cause painful lesions or bumps in the mouth.
- Allergic Reaction: Certain foods or dental products might cause swelling and pain.
- Mucocele: This is a cyst that forms inside the lips due to a blocked salivary gland.
- Dental Issues: An abscessed tooth or gum disease can cause painful bumps.
If the bump persists for more than a couple of weeks, is very painful, or is accompanied by other symptoms like fever, difficulty swallowing, or spreading redness, I recommend seeing a dentist or a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime, you might find some relief by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water, avoiding spicy or acidic foods, and maintaining good oral hygiene.
Thanks
