Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I hope you're well. I'm reaching out because I've been facing some troubling symptoms lately. For about a week now, I've been experiencing intense pain in my head whenever I bend over to pick something up, move too quickly, or even when I cough or clear my throat. It's been quite alarming because I've been dealing with migraines for nearly five decades, but this pain feels different. Along with the head pain, I've been feeling nauseous and sensitive to light and sound. Unlike my usual migraines, this doesn't seem to fit the same pattern. It's as though the pressure in my arteries and veins changes when I change position, making the pain at the top and back of my head unbearable at times. I went to the emergency room, and they did a CT scan, but fortunately, they didn't find anything urgent.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Considering the changes in your headache pattern and the additional symptoms you've described, it's crucial to delve deeper into this issue. The fact that your pain intensifies with certain movements like coughing or bending is indeed concerning and warrants further investigation.

I recommend proceeding with an MRI BRAIN and MR VENOGRAM. These imaging studies will provide us with a clearer picture of what might be causing your symptoms. Specifically, we need to rule out conditions such as Cerebral venous thrombosis, which can present with similar symptoms and may require prompt intervention.

Please don't hesitate to schedule these tests as soon as possible. Once we have the results, we can formulate a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your needs.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Thanks
