Hello Doctor,
My blood test results indicate elevated magnesium levels, which may be attributed to the magnesium supplement I have been taking. Currently, I am also using omeprazole 20 to manage my stomach acid reflux. Could taking omeprazole potentially further increase the magnesium levels in my body?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Actually, long-term use of Omeprazole causes low levels of magnesium in the blood, rather than an increase. Low magnesium levels may lead to muscle spasms, tremors, abnormal heart rate, palpitations, and other symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical advice. It is recommended to periodically check your serum magnesium levels (via a blood test) while taking Omeprazole for an extended period.
Thanks
