Hello Doctor,
I'm feeling this sharp ache in the lower left side of my back, and it's extending down into my groin and occasionally shooting down my leg. Have you ever felt anything like this? It's been bothering me for a while now, and I'm not sure what could be causing it. Do you have any suggestions for how I could find relief or figure out what's going on?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Muscle Strain or Injury: Have you recently engaged in any strenuous physical activity or lifting? Overexertion or improper lifting techniques can strain the muscles in your back, leading to pain that radiates into the groin and leg.
2. Herniated Disc: A herniated disc in the lumbar spine can cause compression on the nerves, resulting in pain that travels down the leg, known as sciatica. This condition often presents with lower back pain as well.
3. Sciatica: Sciatica refers to the compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the back of each leg. This compression can cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the leg, often originating from the lower back or buttock area.
4. Hip Joint Problems: Issues with the hip joint, such as osteoarthritis or labral tears, can cause referred pain to the groin and may sometimes radiate down the leg.
5. Kidney Stones: In some cases, kidney stones can cause referred pain to the lower back and groin area. However, this pain is typically accompanied by other symptoms such as blood in the urine or urinary urgency.
