Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 25-year-old male. My glans is dry and has some red spots like little dry bumps on it, not itchy. But my foreskin is clear; also, my belly area and back are itchy, and the same red spots are there. My belly button also got some rash, and a little amount of yellow foul odor discharge came out from it. I didn’t have intercourse with anyone. I took 2 fluconazole 150mg tablets and then stopped taking them. Now I'm taking Metronidazole 400mg tablets for the last 2 days, and it's not improving. What should I do?

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on the description of your skin condition, you seem to be dealing with hyperpigmentation, acne, and blackheads. For this, I recommend a skincare regimen that includes a gentle cleanser, a non-comedogenic moisturizer, and a sunscreen with a high SPF. Topical treatments containing ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, niacinamide, and azelaic acid can also help in reducing hyperpigmentation and acne. However, these treatments should be used under the guidance of a dermatologist.

Regarding your concern about balanitis, it’s a condition that can be caused by various factors including poor hygiene, irritation, and infections. It’s important to keep the area clean and dry. Topical antifungal or antibiotic creams may be required based on the underlying cause. Your symptoms of dry, red spots on the glans, itchiness on your belly and back, and a rash in your belly button with discharge could suggest a fungal infection. This might not improve with Metronidazole, which is an antibiotic and not antifungal.

If your symptoms persist, I highly recommend consulting with a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Thanks
