Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had RAI (Radioactive Iodine) 3 mCi treatment on December 25. Can we have sex after this treatment? If so, how many days should we wait before it is safe?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. After receiving RAI (Radioactive Iodine) 3 mCi treatment, it is generally recommended to wait at least one week before engaging in sexual activity. This waiting period allows your body to reduce radiation levels to a safe limit, minimizing any potential exposure to your partner. Since your treatment was on December 25, you should be fine to resume normal activities after a week.

2. However, if you have any additional concerns or specific medical conditions, it is always best to consult your treating physician for personalized advice.

Thanks
