Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Is it okay if I receive the first anti-rabies injection intramuscularly and the remaining injections intradermally after being bitten by a dog?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It is acceptable to receive the first dose of the rabies vaccine via the intramuscular route and subsequent doses via the intradermal route. Following this regimen, you should receive the rabies vaccine intradermally on days 3, 7, and 28. Each day, you'll need to receive two shots of the intradermal dose, each being 0.1 mL. It's important not to switch back to the intramuscular route after starting the intradermal regimen.

Thanks
