Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My father, 81 years old, has been suffering from Parkinson's Syndrome for the last 6-7 years. He experiences tremors, loss of bodily control, and has dementia. He is taking Syndopa Plus, which contains Levodopa and Carbidopa. He recently had a CT scan done, and I am attaching the results for your review. I need help determining which medicine can improve his health. I am assisting him by providing exercise, deep breathing exercises, and yoga. Additionally, he goes for a one-hour walk in the evening, but during that time, he tends to speak in a manner that is difficult to understand.

Thankyou!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

As you pointed out, your father has Parkinson's disease and dementia. Both of these are gradually progressive diseases, and patients usually worsen with time regardless of the treatment given. In your case, your father seems to be experiencing Sundowning, which is common in dementia. Kindly visit a neurologist. They can provide personalized recommendations based on his specific needs and may suggest additional therapies or adjustments to his current treatment plan, as well as discuss the addition of medication for dementia and an MRI of the brain for evaluation.

Stay safe.

Thanks & Regards
