Patient Question

Hello Doctor

When I woke up this morning, I felt intense pain in my abdomen after holding my urine overnight. It's been bothering me for a whole day now. What could be causing this, and what should I do to alleviate the pain?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Possible causes:

1. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): Holding urine increases bacterial growth, causing abdominal pain, frequent urination, and burning sensations while urinating.

2. Bladder Distension: Holding urine stretches the bladder, leading to discomfort, pain, and urgency to urinate.

3. Muscle Spasms: Holding urine causes pelvic muscle spasms, resulting in abdominal pain.

Recommendations:

1. Hydration: Drink water to flush out bacteria and ease discomfort.

2. Avoid Holding Urine: Prevent future discomfort and UTIs by not holding urine.

3. Warm Compress: Ease pain and discomfort with a warm compress on the abdomen.

4. Seek Medical Attention: If symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional such as urologist for a urine analysis and appropriate treatment.

Thanks
