Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've noticed a small lump near my anus, and it becomes very painful when I visit the toilet. Sometimes, it also gets itchy. What could be causing this, and should I be worried?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your description, it sounds like you may be experiencing hemorrhoids, which are swollen blood vessels in or around the anus. They can cause pain, itching, and sometimes bleeding, especially during bowel movements. To help relieve your symptoms, I recommend using over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams or suppositories that contain hydrocortisone, which can reduce swelling and itching. Warm sitz baths may also help soothe the area. If the symptoms persist or worsen, a physical examination may be needed to rule out other conditions. If you would like, I can provide further guidance during a consultation.

Thanks
